L1-A Intra-Company Transferee Visa
The L1A Intra-Company Transferee Visa allows international companies to transfer executives or managers from a foreign office to a U.S. office. It is one of the most powerful business immigration pathways for company owners, executives, directors, and senior managers looking to expand operations in the United States.
This visa is commonly used by multinational businesses establishing a new branch in the U.S. or transferring leadership personnel to manage existing operations. The L1A visa also provides a direct pathway toward permanent residency (Green Card) through the EB-1C category.
Benefits of the L1A Visa
- Work Legally in the United States
- No Investment Requirement
- Bring Your Family
- Spouse Work Authorization
- Fast Processing Options
- Pathway to Green Card
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for an L1 Visa, applicants generally must:
- Have worked for a qualifying foreign company for at least one continuous year within the last three years
- Be transferring to a related U.S. company
- Show a qualifying relationship between the foreign and U.S. companies
- Be coming to the U.S. in an executive, managerial, or specialized knowledge role
New Office L1A Visa
Entrepreneurs and business owners can use the L1A visa to open a new office in the United States. This option is ideal for expanding an existing foreign business into the American market.
For new office petitions, USCIS generally grants an initial approval for one year and expects evidence that the U.S. operation will grow into a functioning business with employees and active operations.
Both companies must remain actively operating during the visa period.
